Welcome to my on-line Studio. I have always enjoyed drawing animals in pastels, especially pet portraits. If you are interested in having a portrait of your pet, please contact me and I would be pleased to discuss with you a custom order of your pet drawn in chalk pastels. Please view my studio tour for samples of other pet portraits and animal drawings.
Ordering
Pet Portraits are drawn on approximately 12″ x 16″ Canson Pastel paper. Canson Pastel paper comes in many soft colours that can often compliment the colouring and markings of your pet. Before starting we can discuss what is available and your preferences. Some customers may prefer the drawing on a white background. Before shipping I spray a fine mist of acrylic fixative spray to protect the drawing. When you receive your portrait, it is then ready for you to mat and frame it yourself.
Pricing is determined based on individual commissions, but most basic pet portraits start at $150.00 for one animal (usually just head and shoulders). For additional animals or any background detail the price must be adjusted accordingly. Framing is not included in the price and in order to ship the portrait safely, framing ahead of time is not advisable.
I require at least one good photo of your pet. I supply photo tips for you to achieve the best photo possible. The more accurate and detailed the photo, the more I can accurately portray your pet. I also require a 50% deposit before I start on the commission. This deposit can be sent along with the photo. Once I have completed the portrait, I will E-mail you a photo of the finished product so that you may view your pet portrait before sending me the final payment. When I have received the final payment, I will ship the portrait to you, as well return your photos. The cost of the shipment will be calculated and included in the final price of the portrait.
Please email me at akwhitestudios@gmail.com to discuss orders.
Photo Tips
Please provide me with an accurate detailed photo of your pet which will enable me to portray your pet with more accuracy, therefore, you will be more pleased with the outcome of the finished portrait. Sometimes only one photo is required if the details are enough for me to begin the portrait but often additional photos are required. Also please write down any markings that may not show up on the photo or are not represented on the photo correctly such as colouring.
Please try your best to photograph your pet outside (with no flash on your camera and the red button on for “red eye”). Outside photos allow the colours and details to be more accurate. Also try to be at the same level as your pet, such as kneeling on the grass so that you can take a picture “face on” of your pet. At least one close up picture that gives good detail of your pet’s eyes is appreciated because it is very important for me to portray the eyes correctly. When an artist is able to capture the eyes in a pet portrait the image of the pet is more realistic and lifelike.
